Santini & Co Interior Design was founded in 1998 by Janet Sumperer Gaffey.  Janet founded the firm with the idea of combining her international exposure and education abroad with her personal experience and family history of design.  Having lived abroad in France, Italy and North Africa, Janet’s fluency with different cultures and how people live around the world has lent the firm imagination, breadth and flexibility.

Santini & Co’s heritage is connected to A Santini & Sons, a New York City furniture and moving company founded by Janet’s great grandfather, Anuncio Santini, after he arrived in NYC from the hills of Lucca, Italy. Growing up in a New York City family of furniture aficionados gave Janet an early appreciation of antiques, quality furnishings and the carefully crafted home.

When Santini and Co was formed, large homes and apartments houses were being built across New England as wealth expanded in the region.  These houses were often built by developers to satisfy the demand for square footage and with less focus on interior architectural design. Buyers of these new houses were faced with the challenge of how to artfully furnish the large spaces, while creating a feeling of warmth and home as they upgraded from more contained spaces.   As a result, much of our early work involved creating interior architecture and adding lighting, color, texture and finishes.

In subsequent years, as demographic trends have moved towards maximizing smaller spaces, our business has followed and we have worked on smaller homes and urban apartments.  Indeed, in working with downsizing, we use the same tools as with large houses to enliven the spaces and create the same feeling of openness valued in larger homes.

In the past 18 years, we have designed both residential and commercial spaces using our experience and knowledge. Projects have ranged from urban apartments to mansions, new and historic restoration, Townhouse villages tailored to seniors, and to a 60 unit condo development.  Our mission is to present a custom approach to each project, modeling our plan around the client taste, lifestyle and budget, while blending elements from classic, traditional, contemporary and modern styles.  This client oriented focus gives us the ability to work within specific budget, schedule and style requirements, and ultimately create the most successful design outcomes, our client’s homes.

We invite you to get to know our work, and call us to discuss you ongoing and upcoming projects.
